Sexy supercharger performance from Lotus
| Ever since its Iconic appearance in “Pretty Woman” the movie, lotus has positioned itself in the mind of millions as the sexy sports car. The resemblance doesn’t stop there as lotus has always produced lightweight, purposeful, curvy, and very intelligent vehicles. The fact that lotus uses very little power (but a surgically honed power to weight ratio) has dropped it out of the supercar market of big engines and unobtainable top speeds and into the market of true purpose built track cars. However, don’t let the modest power figures and reduced top speeds fool you, on the track this car is as nimble and as super as any of the so called ‘supercars’.

| In its latest series of cars the Elise and the Exige lotus has used as its core competence the lightweight all aluminum 2zzge Toyota engine, coupled with roots type supercharger performance delivering both a high power to the weight drive train package as well as an all linear power band for the most predictable driving experience. If you’ve read my previous article about twin charging calculations, you would have clearly scene how our dyno plot for the supercharger alone was an upwards shifted version of the stock power chart.
Recently Lotus has unveiled their 2009 Exige S 260. The car is 84 lbs lighter than the 2008 model and “thanks mainly to the Lotus T4e software for the ECU and an eaton M62 Roots-type supercharger, the engine’s 257 hp hits max output at a sky-high 8,000 rpm and the engine can be revved to 8,500 rpm for up to 2 seconds.” The package also includes a top mount air to air intercooler connected to a ram air duct. |
