Questions

1 – Eric : How do I convert my 1999 Yamaha R1 to run on E85 ?

  • Fuel delivery:
    • 50% more
    • Is anyone running a 50% boost in power on the factory fuel system ?
    • Use the power calculator to spec out the fuel system upgrade
  • Timing
    • Advance up to 13*
    • Gain in higher rpms from a faster burn rate?????
  • tuning
    • Take advantage of:
      • the new oxygenated fuel
      • the different burn rate
      • the higher knock limit
      • the increased high rpm efficiency
  • Minimum setup:
    • 50% larger jets
    • Bump up timing
    • Fuel pressure gauge to make sure supply is stable
    • Read check plugs, check for knock, or use an EGT gauge

2- Ebrahim: Is supercharging his 2.0fe 8 valve fuel injected mazda using a Toyota SC12 supercharger and is wondering weather or not he can run this car on his standard ECU ?

Things to check:

1- Fuel delivery: If you have 200hp worth of fuel supply, then you can’t supply 300hp worth
2- Sensor:

  • What is your primary metering sensor: Airflow , Air Mass, Air pressure ?
  • What is the range of that sensor

3- Matched sensor and injector upgrade: 50% more range with 50% more fuel gives a good baseline for the car to run on the same ECU tables.
3- Fine tuning:

  • Fuel
  • Timing: Whole new VE curve and an increase in air charge density everywhere … timing retard at full load… and stock timing at idle.
