Mercedes SLK55 AMG Black series
There is nothing normal or standard about an AMG car, especially not a top of its line SLK55 AMG car. However, the wizards at AMG have practiced some of their black magic on the SLK55 AMG and come out with something even more sinister and even more magical!
Meet the SLK55 AMG Black series. The car is appropriately named after the color of death which is just an indication of the sheer number of kills this car will attain while on mission. AMG calls this car “The perfect mix of performance, handling, and lightweight design”
To start off, the car different from the standard AMG (and I use the word standard loosely), with a redesigned front end, fenders and roof. However, all these modifications are not boy-racer influence changes as with every change, the AMG studio has employed the ‘function is form’ methodology. Thus carbon fiber cooling ducts have been added to the widened front bumper to improve cooling and airflow to the factory oil coolers. Two completely new carbon fiber fenders are on the car including cooling slits for added oil coolers for both the transmission and the high performance power steering. The roof is made of a light weight carbon composite and the entire convertible top has been replaced with the fixed lightweight roof.
The result of all of this weight reduction is a 45KG lighter car and a lower center of gravity.
The other half of the power equation is handled by the 11:1 compression ratio normally aspirated 5.5 liter signature V8 engine. The engine is hand built in house by AMG under the moniker of “one man one engine”, and every engine is signed by its engine builder and dyno tested for assured performance. Over the ’standard’ 55 motor, the SLK55 Black series gets redesigned intake system with high flow AMG sport filters, as well as new performance headers and recalibrated valve timing. The result of tall of this wizardry is 400 horsepower @ 5750 rpm and an impressive 700 ft.lbs of torque @ 3,750 rpm.
The weight to power ratio is reduced by 16% on an already purposeful car from 4.3 to 3.7 kg/hp, resulting in a 0-60 time of 4.5 seconds and a new unrestricted top speed of 173mph!

So what if you’re craving some supercharged power for your SLK55 AMG (black series or standard)?
Kleemann the formidable Mercedes tuner from Denmark offers a supercharger, air-to-water intercooler & intake manifold package for the SLK55. The kit peaks at 7psi and produces an additional 146 hp and 105 ft.lbs of torque giving you a total of 546 horsepower and 519 ft.lbs of torque. Worry not about this torque figure as Kleemann also offers a Limited slip differential that will allow you to better place this torque to the ground.
